Time to Worship (Mid November Update)

Because of certain circumstances, my wife and I have the opportunity to serve in the music ministry this coming week. I’m pretty nervous but think it would be fun since we haven’t really done anything like this since our old bible study days and even the children church days.

Singing in bible study is pretty straight-forward, you could sit down and everyone just looks at their paper to sing. Children’s church is also pretty relaxed, since the kids don’t really care about how they sound, they just like being loud.

I’m praying for grace… Also a time to enjoy with my wife as we minister together in this manner. It really has been a long time.

We have three hymns picked out:

Come thou fount
Solid Rock
Grace greater than our sin

Three hymns we have been practicing together and meditating on. Along with some bible reading… we have talked much about personal accountability, marriage, finances, work, future plans… stuff I think only God will bring us into greater unity and conformity to his will.

Thank you God for this opportunity.

Time to Worship (Week 1 Wednesday)

We were pleasantly surprised with a guest today for dinner. We decided to maintain our pattern of worship.

We began with a hymn Blessed Assurance, scripture reading and concluded with another hymn Grace greater than our sin.

Read Psalm 3 which was preached a few weeks back. v. 3-6 are what stood out to me.

But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Just being reminded that the LORD sustains us really ministered to me. It was a reminder that in the heat and suffering of this world, we have no other but God himself that offers us strength and sustenance.

We concluded with the same hymn from yesterday. The chorus made a deep impression on me especially with all the things that try to overwhelm us.

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured, There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin.

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face, Will you this moment His grace receive?

Time to Worship (Week 1 Tuesday)

I was feeling kind of sick today so we had a quick time of prayer and singing.

We sang two hymns:
#117 Grace Greater Than Our Sin
#214 The Old Rugged Cross

The Old Rugged Cross is one of my wife’s favorite hymns.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross…
Till my trophies at least I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,…
And exchange it some day for a crown.

We had a brief time of intercessory prayer and then concluded with benediction and doxology.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
