Except for one

1 kings 15:4 Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. 5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.

I find it interesting that the author recognized David as being an imperfect man, but did he have to exaggerate that David only failed in one area?  Namely his adulterous affair with adultery with Uriah’s wife.

As I’m reading through the accounts of the kings I’m seeing more and more that Uriah was no ordinary man.  He was one of the brave and courageouswarriors that fought for David. But instead of a hero’s welcome, he was murdered in a coverup plot by the king.  It must be in those situations where we have to recognize the sovereignty of God.

What we see of God is something far more restrained.  God continues to keep his covenant with David’s descendants.  This must have been tortuous for a holy God to see, but He keeps his word even to one as utter sinful as David.  David who when he saw his own sins was totally disgusted by what he had done.  To God and God only had he sinned.

May we be reminded of the grace ofour Lord Jesus Christ.  And how committed God is to his Name and to his word.
